Leading the web, mobile, and enterprise application software development organization for Puget Sound Energy. Responsible for internal and external websites including PSE.com as well as enterprise applications such as document management and enterprise risk systems. Ensuring both operational support and new development projects are completed successfully.

  • Advocating for application investment. Connecting people, ideas and funding to enhance or replace several aging applications. Building roadmaps and vision for internal employee engagement as well as improving external customer experience.

IT Director, Commercial Insurance Product & Policy                           

Sept 2014 – June 2018

Led the Shared Delivery Services organization within the CI IT Product and Policy domain. Responsible for software applications and platforms providing insurance rating, pricing, business rules, publishing, data integration and reporting technology for commercial insurance policy administration system. Ensured both operational support and new development projects were completed successfully. Managed $17M in budget with 60 FTE, 60 contractors and 5 managers as well as several centralized support team members.

  • Guided transformation to agile development best practices. Initiated and facilitated agile transformation of pricing business and IT teams resulting in improved partnership and higher quality delivery. Coached managers to enable skill development and cross-training that led to more empowered, focused, and self-sufficient teams.
  • Facilitated implementation of target Commercial Insurance IT policy data integration patterns. Implemented ACORD based XML messaging standards and translation processing for core policy data. Investment in data definition and standards is improving data integration with multiple systems.
  • Advanced business ownership, maintenance and development of rules, content and analytics. Improved customer satisfaction and reducedIT spend by enabling data or rule changes to be completed by business teams. Shifted all work prioritization and requirements development to product owner roles. Worked to build data platforms that allow self-service analytics.

IT Director,  Commercial Insurance Data Management  

Nov 2012 – Sept 2014

Responsible for Commercial Insurance IT Data Management Reporting and Analytics platforms) and operational reporting and analytics applications. Actively engaged with IT and business leadership to integrate legacy LMAC and CM data into meaningful information for agents, territory manager, underwriters, and actuaries. Drove legacy application retirement and platform consolidation efforts for SAS, Cognos, and Informatica while ensuring consistent and quality business information delivery. Managed over $10M in budget with 45 direct FTE (3 managers), several centralized support team members (architects, server admins, QA, PM), and maintenance / project contractors.

  • Provided oversight for aggressive implementation of integrated reporting initiatives. Completed initial set of data, process and reporting consolidation for agent, operational, and executive reporting within 10 months of company reorganization in 2013. Helped teams solve for data differences and bridging team cultures in order to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Stabilized platforms and executed on consolidation plans. Facilitatedresolution of significant LMAC Teradata platform performance issues through team approach and vendor engagement. Guided teams through Informatica, Cognos and SAS consolidations, upgrades and migrations.
  • Implemented new organizational structures and processes. Facilitated the blending of distinct reporting teams, platforms and processes within Commercial Insurance. Identified and implemented best practices and processes for work intake, issue resolution, user communication, and application development in order to provide common and consistent IT support for both target state and legacy reporting systems.

June 2011 – Nov 2012

Provided leadership and operational direction for Enterprise Content Management (ECM) organization. Managed $8M budget with 32 direct FTE (3 managers), several centralized support teams, and supplemental contractors. Internal reorganization led to assignment with CI Data Management.

  • Established new leadership staff and re-organized teams to deepen bench strength and improve customer service. Re-organized teams from geographically based to capability aligned teams to improve cross training and job opportunities.
  • Strengthening support team and vendor partnerships. Taught team members to partner with internal and external resources as needed to get tasks accomplished and resolve issues in a collaborative, yet urgent, manner. Establishing regular engagement with support teams (Infrastructure & Operations, Hosting, Enterprise Technology Services) that encouraged accountability.
